Jam Sponges are natural unbleached sea sponges that you wear instead of a tampon. They are extremely comfortable, very environmentally friendly and will save you lots of cash. With care they will last up to a year! The Jam Sponge kit includes 2 sponges plus one cotton bag plus a Jam Sponge badge and set of instructions. Don’t beat about the bush!
You wear them by inserting them into the vagina where they absorb your menstrual flow.
You change them by rinsing under the tap or putting into the small bag provided in the kit and then rinsing later and inserting the second sponge. The small bag is intended to hold one sponge as a spare and not the two sponges. You can wear them for up to 8 hours or overnight but it is best to change every 4 to 6 hours.
From September 2019 they will be contained in a paper bag rather than plastic wrapping.

You wash them by giving them an overnight soak in boiling water with a few drops of tea tree oil or lavender oil in. (Or you can soak in boiling water with a tablespoon of bicarbonate) Then you air dry them until next time. You can also put them through the washing machine but it is best to use one of those little bags that you are supposed to put soap tablets in. You can boil them but it will harden them and shorten their lifespan.
Jam Sponges have been picked individually from the Mediterranean Ocean so that the ocean beds continue to restock themselves. The divers who collect the sponges are careful to ensure that the roots of the sponge remain intact so as the sponge can regenerate. They have been farming sponges for generations and if they overpick them they will lose their livelihood. The sponges need clean sea waters to live otherwise they will die. Their existence is a proof that the water around them is not polluted. Once you have finished with your sponges you can simply compost them so they don’t cause any waste.
Your Jam Sponge is a completely natural product!
Do give your Jam Sponge a good soak before use as we cannot guarantee it is completely free of traces of sand or seaweed.
